Weekend of 9.4.10

Well, the summer wedding season is officially over.  Wow, that was quick.  This weekend we were in my home town in Chicago, back in Milwaukee at the Hyatt on Saturday and back to the Planetarium in Chicago on Sunday!

The Friday wedding was like 5 minutes from where I grew up.  The reception on Saturday was the best dance crowd we have had all year.  The reception on Sunday had the best view of my entire 15 year career. (pic below)

See what I mean.  Awesome ceremony. Awesome couple.  Bill-Dp

We were up at the American Club this Saturday in Kohler.  It was kind of weird using the restroom and noticing "Kohler" in the sinks, etc.  I always see "Kohler" all over the country and think of Wisconsin, but this time I was actually in Kohler, using Kohler.  hahaha

The American Club is one of the nicest places in Wisconsin for a reception.  Super nice and excellent food.

We did the very first ceremony at the Oriental Theater in Milwaukee on Saturday.  We provided accent lighting and what a challenge it was.  First of all, I almost fell off the 25 ft. balcony!  I was trying to fix a few par cans to illuminate the aisle a little better.  I did not realize there was a gap in the middle of the area I was walking on, because it was so dark!  We used 25 LED fixtures to light the area.  It turned out super nice.

This weekend was so busy I barley have time to blog!  We had an weddings Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  They were all in Southeastern Wisconsin and all of them ended before midnight.  wedding.

There is a solid 3 months of wedding season left in 2010.

August is underway.  There are only 3 more months of the busy wedding season.  Wow.  This weekend was pretty straight forward.  Our event at Pier Wisconsin had a really creative/touching ceremony.  They all have their special parts that are a little different, but this particular ceremony had spoken lyrics from the song "100 Years" by Five For Fighting and the melody of the song played live on piano.  The lyrics and song were tied in through the entire ceremony.  Also, the 55 year old couple had personal touches of their lives put into the song and lyrics.  I really enjoyed it.

This weekend was definitely not as bad as last weekend, but it got a little crazy.  It all started with an up-lighting event at the Rave in Milwaukee.  For a place that has rock bands play...there is absolutely no electrical sources ANYWHERE in their rooms!  We had to run so much extension cords from other rooms it was ridiculous.  The worst part about the Rave is there is no contact person.  It is just an empty building when you arrive for your event.  If there are any problems you are on your own.

Our event on Friday was a super nice wedding at the Hyatt in Milwaukee.  The bride even had a living room/lounge area with beds brought into her space.  It looked like a South Beach night club by the time we up-lit the space.  I would say the up-lighting turned out in our top 5 up-lighting events of all time.

Saturday we were at the Milwaukee Pubib Market.  The space there is small but nice.  I look forward to doing more events there.

OK. This was the worst situation I was ever put in for as long as I owned Double Platinum!  I was in New York for a lighting convention and Milwaukee was dumped on with 7 inches of rain in 24 hours.  So....the airport was shut down when I needed to get back on Friday for my event on Saturday.  The canceled my flight and put me on a late night flight that was not guaranteed to even take off.  It all depended on General Mitchell airport, which was under water on CNN at Laguardia airport!  So, I rented a car and started driving to Milwaukee.  I was coming down with a cold and I hit all the storms that hit Milwaukee the whole way here.  To make matters worse, the wedding was at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, so I had another 125 miles to drive once I arrived in Milwaukee!

I could of had one of my employees cover the event, but we were providing up-lighting (which was locked in my garage), I had all the event info with me, etc. etc.  I guess it shows my dedication to Double Platinum customers.  Nothing can stop us from getting to your wedding!!

We were at the War Memorial on Friday for a wedding.  The war memorial is a great place for a ceremony and reception.  It has a real metro feel with spectacular view of the lake and the city.  There is also a parking lot for the guests to park.  I have always really enjoyed doing events at this location.

The dance floor started out slow and ended on a pretty good note.  People came around after they seemed to consume more alcohol.

Off to NYC for a sound & lighting convention.

It was a pretty straight forward wedding season weekend.  We had events in Janesville and at the Yacht Club in Milwaukee.  Both events went well with no major mishaps.  The weather actually went from 90 and humid to 80 and dry, so it was a stroke of luck for all the brides this past weekend.

It's kind of weird how Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are super busy wtih events, but 4th of July is always slow.  We only had 1 wedding this weekend at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee.  We did a dance floor projection, room wall up-lighting (in white) and a photo montage.

The Wisconsin Club looks super nice after their big renovation about a year ago.  It is definitely one of the best places in Milwaukee for a wedding.  Plus, there is a parking lot!!

The groomsmen were all doctors.  I doubt that will ever happen again.  The bride & groom were both very laid back and very nice to work with.
